Acupuncture restores health by removing energy imbalances and blockages in the body. In acupuncture, there is an energy called Qi (pronounced "chee") that flows through the body along channels or pathways called meridians. Certain points along these meridians are stimulated by the insertion of fine needles to stimulate the points, giving a therapeutic result. Unlike the hollow hypodermic needles used in allopathic medicine to give injections or draw blood, acupuncture needles are thin, solid and can hardly be felt. Because acupuncture is the penetration of the skin by an acupuncture needle, strict needle safety protocols are observed and sterility of the equipment is always maintained. Our office only uses sterile, disposable, single use needles at all times.
