Dr. James A. Thatcher earned a Bachelor of Science in cellular biology from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. He continued his education at Logan College of Chiropractic, St. Louis, Missouri, earning a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1991. Dr. Thatcher has earned board certifications in physiotherapy and acupuncture as well as completing a postgraduate, 2 year orthopedics program. Governor Bill Owens appointed Dr. Thatcher to the Colorado Board of Chiropractic Examiners for a four-year term in July 1999. Dr. Thatcher was appointed again in 2003 for another four-year term by Governor Owens. Dr. Thatcher and four other members of the Board were responsible for the regulation of about 2,200 chiropractic licenses statewide.
Dr. Thatcher has maintained a full time practice in Colorado Springs since 1992 and provides treatment for whiplash injury, sciatica, pinched nerves, neck pain and herniated disks. He is also certified in acupuncture and dry needle technique (Integrative Neuromuscular Acupoint System). This system of acupuncture was developed by Dr. Yun-Tao Ma, Director of the Biomedical Acupuncture Institute. This system is highly effective in the management of pain as well as maintaining the body’s homeostatic balance. Dr. Thatcher completed all of his training directly under Dr. Ma at the Biomedical Acupuncture Institute.
Most recently, Dr. Thatcher assisted the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners in a review of the Acupuncture National Board exam. Dr. Thatcher participated on a committee that edited, deleted, and composed exam questions.
Dr. Thatcher regularly participates in the Penrose Hospital Vestibular Conference, a multidisciplinary group of doctors committed to furthering their education as it relates to balance and related areas of health.
